| AHC Welcomes New Board Members |

The Arkansas Humanities Council board has twenty-four directors, eighteen elected by the board and six appointed by the Governor. Directors broadly represent the demographics of the state, serve up to two three-year terms, oversee the council's work, and make decisions about grant applications. Board officers for 2009 are Kris Katrosh, Chair; Dr. Calvin Johnson, Vice Chair; Kyle Miller, Treasurer; and M. Christine Allen, Secretary. Directors, Wanda Roe and Clark Trim joined the AHC board in January 2009. Both were appointed by Gov. Mike Beebe. Wanda Roe is the director of Roe's Art Studio in Pea Ridge where she teaches classes and workshops and also produces original art. Clark Trim is the owner of Colonial Wines and Spirits in Little Rock. "Our state's history and its people are important," Trim said. "It's only when we understand those basics that we can reach the loftier goal of existing together in harmony as one human family." Director Ken Barnes was elected by the board. Ken Barnes is a professor of history and chair of the department of history at UCA in Conway. "I've written two books about Arkansas in the late 1800s," Barnes said. "A lot of the projects supported Terms for the new board members began January 1, 2009.
