Special Grants for Local Cemetery Groups and Small History Museums are Available PDF Print E-mail
Cemetery Documentation and Preservation Major Grants

The Arkansas Humanities Council invites applications for major grants of up to $10,000 to support local efforts to document and preserve African American cemeteries in Arkansas.  Local groups who have successfully completed cemetery documentation and preservation minigrant projects or who have developed detailed project plans, with the involvement of humanities scholars, are eligible to apply.

A project must involve historical and/or archeological documentation, or interpretation of the cemetery.  Applications for these grant funds must be postmarked or delivered by January 29, 2010.  Projects should begin no earlier than March 15, 2010. Workshops for prospective grantees will be held in October.

Operating Grants for Small History Museums


The Department of Arkansas Heritage and the Arkansas Humanities Council invites grant applications from small permanent public or nonprofit history museums or historical societies dedicated to the preservation and conservation of Arkansas history and heritage.  Grants of up to $2,500 may be used for basic operations, research, exhibits, education programs and conservation projects.  A small history museum is one having an operating budget of $250,000 or less with a staff of at least one person, who may be paid or unpaid, and who devotes time primarily to the care of the museum and its collections.  An eligible museum must be open to the public at least 90 days per year.
