Public Policy Issues

Arkansas Borne

Highlights creative problem-solvers who are wrestling with difficult social, economic, and environmental issues and winning. 

Basic Needs

The Arkansas Foodbank Network serves as a broker between private businesses and nonprofit feeding agencies without reliance on government intervention. Also featured is "We Care," a community group in Wrightsville that provides unique services for people in need. 

Environmental Protection

The Buffalo River is a priceless state treasure that must constantly be protected from the pressures of modern growth. The Ozark Society and Pindall Citizens Against Landfill are two citizen groups that were formed and have fought successfully to preserve the natural beauty of the river. 

Families

Several organizations are working to help parents and children overcome some of the barriers placed before them by today's society. The Boys, Girls, and Adults Community Development Center in Marvell, Advocates for Children and Families, and the Parent Center in Little Rock are helping to make life better for coming generations. 

New Directions in Farming

Arkansas farmers are developing new ways to keep land fertile and their livelihoods profitable. The Ozark Organic Growers Association, the Home Grown Marketing Project, Meadowcreek, Hendrix College, and the Small Farm Coalition are part of a growing network of organizations working to revolutionize farming in the state.

Explores the past, present, and future of Arkansas and its people. 

The Coming Economy

Despite years of working toward the diversification of Arkansas' agricultural economy, the state is still one of the poorest in the nation. Initiatives to provide new opportunities for all Arkansans are illustrated.
